Rhetoric in the XIX and XX century

   As such, the rhetoric remained a part of arts education in all European countries until the XIX century. The development of political and other kinds of eloquence and romantic literature leads to the elimination of conditional rules public speaking. Traditionally, the most important part - teaching about verbal expression - dissolved in style as part of literary theory, and the remaining sections have lost practical meaning. It was then that the word Rhetoric become odious connotation stuffed verbiage.

   The word rhetoric is used for new subjects - the theory of prose (mostly Fiction - XIX century, German philology), style (XX century, the French language and literature), the theory of argumentation (XX century, the Belgian philosopher J. Perelman)
